I have get Scarlet Bird professional strings. I have a Scarlet Brid mother of pearl LE guzheng. Last year I have changed all the strings with yuesheng strings. I was not satisfied at all since my guzheng get quiet. So yet I have changed all strings to Scarlet Bird professional strings. now its again really loud.
And yet comes the great surprise. The professional strings are nearby so soft like
dunhuang B Strings! I suggest they use german steel since one set cost 60$. Plus they are really loud, warm and clear.
It's possible that the scarlet bird factory put on economic strings instead of professional strings even on the high models when shipped out? Because I can remind as I have got my scarlet bird, that the strings was hard. |

I think the Scarlet Bird uses their Professional strings only on #10 and #10A. All the other models use the economy strings. Well, if you like SB strings, you can just use Xishan strings, since now Xishan is SB's string vendor. That will save some bucks if you don't mind green instead of red strings.
SB just keeps changing their string vendor every few years. About 10 years ago, they use Huqin strings. I remember I really liked those. Later they use Yuesheng strings for a few years. Now they use Xishan strings. I've never liked the Xishan ones because they create noise when plucking, and the economy ones are really hard to bend. The professional ones are ok, but they still have that weird noise that gets my nerve.
I have seen so many people who immediately want to change all the strings right after purchase. Yet I've seen people who really like the strings. I guess it depends.... |
