21-stringed Concert Heitan Black Sandalwood Guzheng

Award winner, Mr. Wang Jianchun of the Tianyi Factory.
Mr. Wang Jianchun's instruments are a favorite among professional guzheng players for
their fullness of sound and versatility.
The sound board is selected from the best grade of air-dried paulownia cut in the
quartersawn method. The quartersawn-cut method is known as the best cutting method
of sound boards for musical instruments. It provides a more stable and clear sound
compared to the flatsawn-cut. The bottom of the sound board is carved with sound
grooves to increase volume.
The straight and tight grains of the sound board yield the best concert-level sounds. This
instrument sounds full and resonant with strong bass and sweet highs. The middle range
is solid and has a clarity that can't be heard in other instruments.
The backboard uses aged spruce. Spruce backboard adds a rich tone to the instrument
that the regular paulownia backboard can not come close.
The frame is Heitan Black Sandalwood. The characteristics of heitan is clear and bright.
Normally Heitan provides a little thin sounding due to it's higher density. With spruce
backboard, the sound is pure and rich. It's also dynamic with great contrast from high
range to low range. Definitely the best!
