Now a vice professor in China Conservatory of Music, Lin Ling is a famous
contemporary guzheng performer. She first studied with Yang Xiuming, a celebrated
guzheng player of Chaozhou shool, was admitted to Central Conservatory of Music in
1977, and then transferred to China Conservatory of Music in 1981, where she studied
with Prof. Cao Zheng, Qiu Dacheng, and Li Wanfen as well as a well-known player,
Hong Sihua. After graduation in 1985, she was recommended to be the first
postgraduate student in the Chinese history of guzheng education. In 1987, she
obtained a master’s degree with her thesis “On the Artistry in Guzheng Performance of
Chaozhou School.”
As a member of Chinese Artist Group and Chinese Plucked Instrument Orchestra, Lin
Ling has visited Austria, Japan, Canada, Philippines, America, Thailand, North Korea,
Hong Kong and other countries and regions, and was highly commended wherever she
went. The solo concert she held in Taiwan in 1995 was well received by the audience
and commented by the local cxritics as “a never-to-be-forgotten one for her superb
skills and refined performance full of inspiration and excitement.”
