Luo Xiao-Ci is a solo Guzheng performer of Shanghai National Music
Ensemble, the member of Shanghai Musicians Association and the
managing director of Guzheng Special Committee of Shanghai Musicians
Association. She began to learn Zheng at the age of 7 and passed the
entrance examination to affiliated middle school of Shanghai
Conservatory of Music at 13. At the same year, she won the second prize
of the juvenile professional group in ART International Competition of
Chinese Instruments. Later she gained admission to National Music major
of Shanghai Conservatory of Music without taking the entrance
examination. During the next ten years, she had studied after zheng
educators and performers such as Ms. Guo Xue-Jun, Mr. He Bao-Quan
and Ms. Sun Wen-Yan successively. She had also been instructed by
Zheng masters such as Zhao Man-Qin and Wang Zhong-Shan in that
period.
Luo Xia-Ci began her life as a professional performer after she graduated
from the university and became a member of National Music Ensemble. In
1997, she was invited to attend the “17th Spring of Shanghai – Symphony
Assemble of Shanghai and Taipei.” Her performance of Zheng concerto
Lin’an Eternal Regret won special concern and favorable comments. In
1998 and 1999, her performance of Linchong Flee at Night and Emperor
of West Chu achieved success. In 2000, her concert “Zheng –Music-
Poem –Luyou and Tangwan” was debuted. It gave a wholly new idea to
the field of national music with the combination of different art forms such
as zheng performance, on-the-spot calligraphy, symphony chorus and
poems recitation. In November 2000, she was invited to perform concerto
Butterfly Lovers at the opening ceremony of the second Shanghai
International Music Art Festival. In 2001, she successfully held “Spring of
Shanghai International Music Festival – Luo Xiao-Ci Solo Concert &
Painting and Calligraphy Show”. She had made performance tours in
countries such as Japan, Italy, Ukraine, Germany, and many more.
While concentrating on Guzheng performance, Luo Xiao-Ci also shows
interest in Chinese painting and calligraphy, national vocal music, opera
and guqin, which involves her elegant performing style and art pursuit of
expressing profound meaning in simple form. Luo Xiao-Ci is a young
performer with noble manners and deep cultural accumulation in Chinese
National Music Field.
