The beautiful guzheng virtuoso, Su Chang from Beijing's Central Music
Conservatory, joins the Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestra
to present the world premiere of Identity - Zhongshan Zhuang, a
concerto for Guzheng and Orchestra on Sunday, February 21st, 2010
at the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse. This wonderful evening of
classical music will also include several guzheng solos and the YMF
Debut Orchestra's performance of Richard Wagner's Tannhäuser.

Identity is a concerto for the guzheng and orchestra that relays
what countless families went through as they were torn apart at the end
of the Chinese civil war in 1949. A Chinese Nationalist Army Officer
reluctantly leaves his wife and 5-day old baby girl behind to lead his
troops in the withdrawal to Taiwan. After 43 years of separation, the
Officer realizes he will never live to see them again. He asks the son he
brought with him to Taiwan to promise he will take the Officer's ashes
and the Zhongshan zhuang, a very special shirt his wife made him
when they first met, back home to China. The Officer wants his wife to
know he loved her until his death and he wants his soul returned to the
China he loved and the country to which he belongs.
