Concert in Memory of Prof. Qiu Dacheng was held in New Jersey

In Memory of Prof. Qiu Dacheng of China Music Conservatory,
Guzheng musician Yang Yi, a former student of Qiu, together with Pipa
musician Chen Yihan and Yangqin musician Li Lichun hold a memorial
concert in Britol Chapel, Westminster Conservatory on May 27th.   Qiu’
s widow, Prof. Xu Xiaolin, also traveled from Beijing to join the concert.


Prof. Qiu Da Cheng was passed away in 1997.  His last position was
the vice directory of Chinese Music Department in China Music
Conservatory.  For all his life, he was dedicated to guzheng teaching.  
Many current guzheng musicians were his students.


In this concert, Ms. Yang Yi and her students performed songs from
Prof. Qiu’s compositions or arrangements.  In the first half, the students
played several ensemble pieces.  In the second half, Ms. Yang Yi
played one of Prof. Qiu’s famous piece, “Peacock Flying Southwest”.  
She was joined by Chen Yihan in guzheng/pipa duet “Spring River
Flower Moon Night.”  The climax was reached when these talent
musicians performed “Flavor of Shu Suite Songs” in Guzheng, Pipa,
and Yangqin trio.
