Exceed everyone's expectation, more than 50 guests showed up on the
19th to share a wonderful night of Beibei's Guzheng Salon.
The night started with 6-year-old Anthony playing Mary had a Little Lamb
and the Cloud. Cute Anthony was not nervous at all. He is followed by
his mother Debbie who played Wave Washes Sand and Feng Xiang
Song. She is followed by Huong who played Swordsman and Feng
Yang Flower Druming. Then, Tina played Meng Jiang Lady and On the
Mountain of Beijing.and Troung.
The program then moved on to the advance students. First, Wendy
played Fighting Typhoon and Moon of Jianchang. Judy played
Embroidering Purse and Young Sprout. Melanine played Moon of
Jianchang and Liuyang River. All of them showed great techniques,
and each has her own unqiue music style.
Beibei performed during the second half of the night. She started with
Dance of Yi, a song that most audience are very familiar with. Then
she played Fantasy of Dunhuang, a song she recently composed. The
song is tuned differently than the traditional pentatonic scale. It has a
flavor of guqin music combined with dance rhythm of the minority
people. Later she played Fragrant Jasmine and Moon is High. She
showed great dynamic and music expression in both songs. An
audience said Beibei and the instrument seemed to unite as one.
After the concert, our guest Don from San Diego presented to us an
electronic guzheng he made. He built 3 pick-ups into the body of the
guzheng. It can be connected to any amplifier to amplify the volume.
