CCTV Folk Instrument TV Competition American Regional Competition Begins

China Central Television (CCTV) will be holding a 2007 CCTV Folk
Instrument TV Competition in Beijing. Entrusted by the CCTV
competition committee, USA Starbridge, Inc and California Youth
Chinese Symphony (CYCS) will co-host the regional competition for
North/Central/South America and arrange for selected participants to
attend the semi-finals and finals competition in Beijing.
Competition is divided into two categories: instrument solo and
instrument ensemble. Any individuals who reside in North/Central/South
America region, regardless of ethnicity, are eligible to participate.
i. Instrument solo:
Sub-divided into 4 categories: string instruments, plucked
instruments, wind instruments, and percussive instruments.
ii. Instrument ensemble:
Sub-divided into 2 categories: traditional ensemble (comprised of
traditional instruments) and non-traditional ensemble (comprised of
traditional instruments and other instruments). Ensemble must be
between 2-15 people.
iii. Folk Instrument Performance:
Any performing of Chinese folk instruments other than those that fit into
the above two categories are eligible to apply. CCTV competition
committee has the final decision to select performers or performing
groups to perform in the program.
Preliminary round will be judged based on the participants’ audio or
video material. All participants must submit a CD and a DVD of their
performance on a self-selected piece.
Deadline for Preliminary round: September 27th, 2007. Registration
form, CD and DVD must be received by that date. Material must be
postmarked by September 24th, 2007. Local participants may deliver
material directly to the regional committee office (43126 Christy St.,
Fremont, CA 94539) by 12:00pm noon on September 27th, 2007.
Committee will inform those who make it into the semi-finals before
October 2nd, 2007. (Committee will not inform otherwise). Results will
also be posted on the websites (www.usastarimage.com and www.
uscycs.org).
Semi-finals will be carried out and judged live on October 4th, 2007
morning. Finalists for the regional competition will be selected during
this round.
Finals will be held on October 4th, 2007 and will be judged live. A few
finalists (individual or group) will then be eligible for selection to enter
the semi-finals of the “2007 CCTV Folk Instrument TV Competition”
held in Beijing.
All selected finalists from the American regional competition will be
qualified to compete for the semi-finals of the “2007 CCTV Folk
Instrument TV Competition.” Regional winners who get accepted into
the semi-finals will receive merit awards given by CCTV competition
committee.
USA Starbridge, Inc and California Youth Chinese Symphony will
provide any necessary training to prepare for the competition. The
American regional team will leave for Beijing at the end of October or at
the beginning of November. CCTV will be responsible for the cost of
one-trip air ticket and the transportation, room and board costs during
the stay in Beijing. Other costs will be responsible by the participants.
Individuals and groups who wish to participate in the competition must
submit the following:
i. Registration Form. (Form can be downloaded from www.uscycs.
org and www.usastarimage.com)
ii. A photocopy of ID card or passport, biography, and performing
photos (if any)
iii. For ensembles, a photocopy of group identification and performing
photos (if any)
iv. A CD and a DVD copy of playing 1-2 selected pieces. No time limit.
v. Registration starts immediately. All required material must be
mailed and postmarked by September 24th, 2007. Regional competition
committee must receive all material by 12:00pm noon on September
27th, 2007. Local participants can personally deliver to committee office
by September 27th, 2007.
