Shandong School

Shandong guzheng music has its root from Shandong opera “Lui-Ju”.  The
music is overflowed with enthusiasm.  Traditionally, the Shandong School
uses silk-stringed guzheng.  The silk strings require harder push than the
steel strings; therefore, the Shandong playing style is known to have hard
push with the left hand.  More over, Shandong musicians use real nails
instead of picks, therefore the nail utilization is extremely elegant.  They pluck
using first joint, and the fingers are able to move fast.  Well-known Shandong
musicians are Mr. Zhang Wei-Zhao, Mr. Zhao Yu-Zhai, Gao Zi-Chen, Mr. Han
    Ting Gui and so on.

There are two types of Shandong guzheng music, the “Da-Ban”, and the
“Xiao Ban”.  “Da-Ban” is often played at the end of the opera.  “Da-Ban” has
68 measures, and is played repeatedly with stronger emotion.  “Xiao Ban”
music refers to the Shandong folk songs that are generally lively and
    enthusiastic.

Famous Shandong guzheng music includes "The Fisherman Song", "Fall
Moon over the Han Palace ", " the beautiful woman is homesick”, “the
Fengxiang song ", and "the Eight Da-Ban".
