🎶 Sound of China Guzheng Ensemble 2026 Annual Concert: Phantom of the Strings
🗓 Sunday, September 27 at 4:00 PM

The Sound of China Guzheng Ensemble proudly presents its 2026 Annual Concert, Phantom of the Strings, on September 27.

Inspired by the interplay of strings, light, and shadow, this year’s concert invites audiences on a musical journey across cultures. The program moves from Broadway classics, American folk music, contemporary Chinese pop, and Argentine tango to Taiwanese melodies, traditional opera, and powerful modern ensemble works—showcasing the guzheng’s lyrical beauty, dramatic energy, and remarkable versatility.

The concert features several works specially arranged by Professor Cynthia Hsiang:

The Phantom of the Opera reimagines the iconic musical through a dramatic guzheng ensemble arrangement filled with mystery, romance, and theatrical intensity.

Take me Home, Country Roads brings a familiar and heartwarming melody to life through the guzheng’s clear and resonant sound.

Blossoms weaves together beloved melodies in a nostalgic musical portrait of love, memories, reunions, and farewells.

Other program highlights include:

Libertango, featuring guzheng duet and piano in a vibrant fusion of Eastern strings and passionate Argentine rhythms.

Longing for the Spring Breeze and Fantasia on Taiwanese Opera Melodies, performed by our special guest artists, the He Cai Guzheng Ensemble from Taiwan, celebrating the beauty of Taiwanese folk music and traditional opera.

Chulkang, a vibrant Korean composition featuring bold rhythms, dynamic ensemble textures, and the distinctive energy of Korean music.

Phantom of the Strings is more than a guzheng concert—it is a meeting of East and West, tradition and innovation, sound and imagination. We warmly invite you to join us for an evening celebrating the guzheng’s timeless beauty and limitless possibilities.
